Managluru: Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management has organized a two-day National Level Aero Modeling Competition for undergraduate students of the entire country on 13 and 14 May 2016. Aerophilia 2016 gives wings to innovative thinking to aero modeling enthusiasts thereby igniting the passion for the future of aeronautics in India. The motive behind organizing such a competition is to spread and teach the young talented minds of our nation to explore the new era of aeronautics to foster development of the nation.

The competition will be held for two days at Sahyadri campus and the participating teams are expected to design a radio controlled aircraft with the limitations regulated in its dimension and power system. The aircraft is validated by its maneuverability and maximum payload carrying capacity, which will be tested in two successive rounds. Special attractive air shows will be performed by national and international radio flyers of national repute. IITs and NITs – the elite institutions of our nation are expected to participate in this competition. Four top Indian Institute of Technologies (IITs) and National Institute of Technologies (NITs) have already registered for the competition.

The competition will be inaugurated by three eminent personalities A V Aravindh; a Controls Engineer and presently working as a Systems Engineer for the Light Combat Aircraft, LCA-Tejas Program at Aeronautical Development Agency, Chinmaya an Electronics Engineer working on the avionics systems of LCA-Tejas at ADA and Pavana Prabhakar, Assistant Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Texas at El Paso, Texas.
This event is conducted by Team Challengers and Dreamers of Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management; a group of students passionate about aeronautics and robotics. Experienced students who have participated in SAE International Aero Design Competition 2016 held at Fort Worth, Texas, USA, Boeing Aero Modeling Competition and various other aero modeling competitions is the organizing committee.
The Aerophilia 2016 air show is open to the public and all students on 13th May 2016 from 11:15 am to 12:15 pm and also on 14th May 2016 from 04:00 pm to 05:00 pm at Sahyadri Campus. The air show will provide a multitude of learning experiences in mathematics, history, arts/graphics and science.
The Aerophilia 2016 winners will be honored with cash prizes of INR 50,000, INR 30,000, INR15,000 for the Champion, the First and Second runner up, respectively. Two teams will also receive consolation prizes of INR 5,000 each. This event will attract the nation’s aero modelling enthusiasts to Mangalore. Friday 13th May 2016 at 12:15 pm to 01:15 pm. Technical talks will be delivered by the chief guests on the importance of RC Modeling, the various career paths available and the importance of aero modeling in the development of the nation.
