11th MAHE – Dr A Padma Rao PG Oration held at KMC, Manipal

Manipal: The 11th “MAHE – Dr A Padma Rao Memorial Postgraduate Update and Oration” was held on July 24 2021. Dr Sharat Rao, Dean KMC Manipal gave the welcome address and remembered 37 years of service rendered by Dr A Padma Rao to the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, KMC Manipal. Chief Guest, Dr HS Ballal, Pro Chancellor, MAHE in his message emphasized on the contribution of Dr A Padma Rao, who started first rural maternity welfare centers that brought down maternal and perinatal mortality significantly in Udupi District.

Guest of Honor Dr PLNG Rao, Pro Vice Chancellor, Vice Chancellor MAHE spoke about context of annual endowment oration in the name of Dr A Padma Rao, where in personalities of national and international fame who have contributed significantly to field of Obstetrics and Gynaecology are invited as speakers to deliver their orations. He welcomed Prof Sheila Balakrishnan, Head of the Department of Reproductive Medicine and Surgery, from Trivandrum Medical College, who is responsible for the first IVF baby in the public sector in South India

11th MAHE Dr A Padma Rao PG Oration at KMC ManipalProf Dr Sheila Balakrishnan gave her oration on the topic “Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)” which is considered to be a multifaceted disease with a spectrum of manifestations affecting not only women of childbearing age, but also adolescents and postmenopausal women. She unveiled how PCOS influences the reproductive health, mental well-being, and in addition causes significant cardiovascular and metabolic morbidity.

The oration was organized by Head of the Department Professor Dr Shripad Hebbar, along with family members of Dr A Padma Rao. Professor Dr Jyothi Shetty proposed the vote of thanks.
