Bengaluru: “There is a magnificent symbiotic interaction between music and nature that profoundly enriches our lives. They are inseparable from one another, much like conjoined twins.
Nada and the natural world play a vital role in our understanding of the universe and our place within it. Music has the power to evoke the beauty, power, and mystery of the natural world,” said Playback Singer Priyadarshini, PhD.
Speaking as a Guest Speaker in International symposium on “Art, Culture and Environment” organised by Bengaluru City University she shared valuable insights about the topic Music, Nature and Environment An Intertwined Blend.
Singer Priyadarshini began her talk with the popular song of Dr Rajkumar “Naadamaya” which depicts the beauty of Nada in Nature in its lyrics. Describing the morning raga’s connection with nature she sang a song “Jo tum Todo” from Meera The way of the storm.
Singer Priyadarshini quoted many examples and demonstrated with Carnatic Kriti, Ghazal and Hindustani Bandish in different languages to show the interconnectedness of music, nature and environment. The students and the audience clapped along with the rhythm for the Kannada folk song Mayadantha Male Banthanna & telugu film song on rain Nuvvosthanante.
Actor, Filmmaker & Environmentalist Suresh Heblikar was also another speaker who spoke about how our planet is facing numerous challenges, such as climate change, pollution, deforestation, and habitat destruction. He said “If we do not take immediate action to address these issues, we risk causing irreparable harm to the ecosystems that sustain life on Earth.”
The Vice Chancellor Prof Lingaraja Gandhi spoke about how the Centre of Global languages is playing a crucial role in international communication, commerce, and cultural exchange.
Prof Gandhi said “By promoting multilingualism, celebrating diversity, and breaking down language barriers, we can create a more inclusive and understanding global community”. Some of the most prominent global languages offered by the University include Spanish, German, French, Italian and Japanese.
Consulate General of France Thierry Berthelot, Consulate General of Italy Alphonso Tagliaferri, Art Historian UNESCO Fellow Dr Choodamani Nandagopal, Founder Centre of Global Languages BCU Dr Suman Venkatesh, Dean CGL, BCU Dr Jyothi Venkatesh, Music Composer Mahesh Mahadev, HOD Jain University Dr Vidya Rao, Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath Dr Raghavendra Rao, CMR University Prof T R Subramanya & other Dignitaries were present.
