The 75th Primetime Emmy Awards were a spectacular event filled with nostalgic reunions, groundbreaking sweeps, and unforgettable acceptance speeches. The ceremony, which took place in Los Angeles on Tuesday morning (Monday night in the US), was delayed by five months due to last year’s actors’ and writers’ strikes.
The host for the evening was the charismatic Black-ish actor, Anthony Anderson, and the awards ceremony was exclusively streamed on Lionsgate Play in India.
HBO’s Succession bid a triumphant farewell with a staggering 27 nominations this year and a total of 75 over its four seasons. The Roy family dominated the best drama series category, securing six awards. Kieran Culkin took home the trophy for best actor in a drama, Sarah Snook won best actress in a drama, and Matthew Macfadyen secured the coveted best supporting actor award in drama.
FX’s unconventional comedy series, The Bear, emerged victorious with the best comedy series award. Jeremy Allen White bagged the Best Actor trophy, while co-stars Ayo Edebiri and Ebon Moss-Bachrach were honored with the awards for Best Supporting Actress and Actor in Comedy.
Netflix’s Beef claimed the title of the unequivocal best-limited series of 2023, earning well-deserved wins for actors Ali Wong and Steven Yeun, as well as director and writer Lee Sung Jin.
During the ceremony, Hannah Waddingham and Colman Domingo presented the prestigious Governors Award to GLAAD, highlighting the importance of realistic LGBTQ representation in media. GLAAD president and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis urged Hollywood to portray transgender people accurately, emphasizing that more people claim to have met a ghost than have known a transgender person.
