New Delhi: In recent reports, it’s been mentioned that the Tata Group is planning to set up one of the largest iPhone assembly plants in Hosur, Tamil Nadu. This facility, expected to have around 20 assembly lines, could provide jobs for about 50,000 people within the next two years. They’re looking to get it up and running within the next 12 to 18 months.

This move is part of Apple’s bigger plan to do more of its manufacturing in India. But it’s important to note that neither Tata Group nor Apple has officially announced this yet.

Tata Group already has an iPhone manufacturing plant in Karnataka, which they bought from Wistron Corp. Apple has been working with manufacturing partners in different countries, like India, Thailand, and Malaysia, as they try to move some of their production away from China.

If this plan in Tamil Nadu goes through, it’s expected to be even bigger than Tata’s existing facility from Wistron, which currently employs over 10,000 people. At the same time, Apple is aiming to make more than 50 million iPhones every year in India, a significant shift away from relying heavily on China for production. This information comes from sources cited by the Wall Street Journal.
