10,870 rural students benefit from Soham Foundation welfare work

Bengaluru: Soham Foundation has been reaching out to many rural students through various programs. Total cumulative beneficiaries till date amount to 10,870 rural students.

Soham Foundation is a registered trust promoted by the Soham Renewable Energy India Pvt. Limited as a CSR wing of the company. The foundation is efficiently aiding the underprivileged rural children to meet their potentials by sustainable developmental initiatives. The community initiatives started in 2006 reaching 25 school going children and now 2015 has reached over 10870 students with its various activities.. The CSR activities are mainly focused on rural areas near the company’s  plant sites in Moodabidre , Nekkilady , Jog falls , Mahadevpura and other nearby villages. The Foundation is in look out for partners who can contribute to Soham Foundations projects on the ground, either in planning or implementing in addition to financial funding.

Community Initiatives of Soham Foundation:

Vidya Ganaka: Implemented in May 2006 by setting computer labs to unleash the power of computers and the internet to rural areas that has not seen or experienced one with an objective to establish an enabling environment to promote the usage of Information Technology in government schools in rural areas. Under this initiative, the Foundation has reached 9670 students in 40 schools within a radius of 10-15 km around their project sites at near Moodabidri, Nekkilady, Mahadevpura , Jog village and nearby villages .  This program is in partnership with the Azim Premji Foundation where in their educational multimedia cds for std 1 to 8 on all subjects are distributed free of cost to all the rural schools by Soham Foundation.

Vidya Vahana: Provides transportation help to the students in remote rural hamlets who have to cross dense forests in diverse weather conditions of scorching sun and heavy monsoon downpour to reach rural schools.The trek of more than 10 km to attend the school was making many parents to withdraw their children, especially girls. Though it was meant for 25 students, over 500 children are covered every day . This program has been in operation since August 2005. Now Soham Foundation Now  due to increase in  number of students utilizing this service a local transport operator- Gajanana Motor Transport Companybuses provides transport facility at morning and evening over 100 students from 7 schools at jog on a daily basis.

Vidya Bala Suraksha: This initiative addresses steps to take care of health of the rural children by bringing an awareness towards hygiene and cleanliness . Parent Child Insurance: Vidya bala suraksha program in association with Rotary Club & United India Insurance insured parents/ guardians of school children around our Project sites in Moodbidire,Nekkilady & Jog schools. The program started in 2009-10 covering 2512 students from 15 schools has reached 10840 students from 95 schools this year.

Soham Sahayog: The Foundation responds to the basic needs and issues of the local community by joining hands with local institutions youth groups for providing road facility, solar lights, and civic amenities, and building community awareness. Recently 50 street lights were donated to Mahadevpura Village by Soham Foundation.

Soham Jyothi: This program is about providing solar lighting solutions to remote areas not connected to the grid. Several rural households in the interior have been donated Solar Lights.
