Washington: The United States reiterated its stance that any nation engaging in business ventures with Iran faces the possibility of sanctions. This came in response to reports of Iran and India striking a deal regarding the Chabahar port. State Department Deputy Spokesperson Vedant Patel acknowledged the agreement between Iran and India but refrained from commenting on India’s foreign policy objectives and bilateral relations with Iran.
Patel emphasized that despite any deals, US sanctions against Iran remain in effect and will be enforced. He cautioned entities considering business with Iran about the associated risks, reiterating the consistent message from the US on the matter.
On Monday, India and Iran formalized a 10-year agreement for operating a terminal at the strategically significant Chabahar port. This pact is expected to enhance regional connectivity and strengthen trade relations.
