New Delhi: A 20-year-old Indian student from Burripalem in Andhra Pradesh’s Guntur district, identified as Abhijeeth Paruchuru, was discovered deceased in the United States, as per his family’s claims suggesting foul play.
Abhijeeth, enrolled as an engineering student at Boston University, resided separately from his parents, Paruchuri Chakradhar and Srilakshmi Boruna, who lived in Connecticut, authorities revealed on Monday.
His family alleges that he was the victim of a homicide on March 11 within the university campus, and his body was subsequently abandoned in a car within a forest.
Identification of his remains was made possible through tracking his cell phone signals, initiated after his friends filed a complaint.
While the Consulate General of India in New York initially reported no suspicion of foul play, stating, “Paruchuru’s parents are cooperating with detectives. Preliminary investigations indicate no evidence of foul play,” they expressed deep condolences over his demise, affirming, “Deeply saddened to learn about the unfortunate demise of Abhijeeth Paruchuru, an Indian student in Boston.”
Furthermore, the consulate provided support in documentation and repatriation of his body to India, maintaining communication with local authorities and the Indian-American community.
Abhijeeth’s funeral rites took place in his hometown in Andhra Pradesh on Monday.
Notably, there has been a surge in reported deaths of Indian and Indian-origin students in the US since the onset of 2024.
