Mangaluru: The Corporators of Mangaluru City Corporation headed by Mayor Jacinta Alfred, flocked around Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on a hot Friday afternoon at a guest rest room at Mangaluru International Airport.
While there was no clarity over what transpired between Corporators and CM in the presence of MLAs and Ministers from Dakshina Kannada, speculation was rife that Corporators vented their ire against the tough MCC Commissioner Hephsiba Rani Korlapati.

Hours before the Chief Minister’s arrival at the airport, a senior Congress leader requesting anonymity told Newskarnataka.com that the district-in-charge minister Ramanath Rai buckled under Corporators pressure and gave in to the demand of transferring the IAS officer raised by the Corporators. The interaction between the Chief Minister and Corporators assumed significance in this backdrop.
The Chief Minister, in response to a query about his interaction with the Corporators, said,” this was an internal matter of the Congress hence information will not be divulged to the press”. However, he seemed well aware of the issues within the MCC, when to a specific question on the MCC Commissioner, the CM said that there is misunderstanding between Mayor and Commissioner and it would be resolved soon”.
BBMP
The Chief Minister hoped legislation for trifurcation of Brihat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike would be passed in the upper house despite Congress not having a majority there. Besides High Court has cancelled the single bench order on BBPM elections giving six months of time period for conducting elections, the CM added. “The Bill was passed in the lower house and it is under discussion in the upper house. We are hopeful that the bill would be passed in the upper house too,” CM reiterated.
He further added if the bill fails find favor in the Legislative Council, it would be sent to the Legislative Assembly for the enactment. He expressed the bill won’t be sent to the select committee and never in the history of the state, was a bill sent to a select committee from the upper house.
