Mangaluru: The world’s premier Konkani Cultural Organisation, Mandd Sobhann, presented the 6th Global Konkani Music Awards, to recognize, encourage and honour talents, so that Konkani Music may flourish globally. The Award Ceremony was held on Sunday December 21 at Kalaangann.
Shilpa Tejaswini Cutinha, bagged the ‘Best Singer Female – 2013’ Award while Nithin Koottungal, Kerala, won the ‘Best Singer Male – 2013’ Award. The ‘Best Music Composer – 2013’ Award was bagged by Mr. Joel Pereira, Mangalore and ‘Best Lyricist – 2013’ was awarded to Ms. Irene D’Souza, Mangalore. Mr. Roshan D’Souza, Mangalore, won the ‘Best Music Arranger – 2013’ and ‘Chandare’ won the ‘Best Music Album – 2013’ Award.

The Awards included a cash prize of Rs. 25, 000/- each, bouquet, title and a trophy.
The Chief Guest, eminent Hindi and Marathi Cine & TV Star Varsha Usgaonker presented the Awards to the winners. She also sang two Konkani songs. Speaking on the occasion, she said that she was overjoyed to be invited as the Chief Guest of a Global event in Konkani, her own community.
Cine Star Ester Noronha entertained the audience with her melodious singing and performances. Nach Sobhann presented scintillating dances on various Konkani numbers.
Sidhanath Buyao’s CD ‘Konkani Unplugged’ was also released on the occasion, at the hands of Ms. Varsha Usgaonker, accompanied by her husband Mr. Ajay Sharma. Mandd Sobhann Gurkar, Shri Eric Ozario, was also present on stage.
The judges, sponsors, special guests and all those who worked behind the success of the programme were honoured on this occasion.
Lavita Lobo and Arun Raj Rodrigues compered the entire programme. Guests from Pakistan, Dubai, Qatar, USA, Canada and many other parts of the world had attended the programme in large numbers.
