Less than two days after a seven-month-old boy was kidnapped from the Pune Railway Station, the city police successfully rescued him from Bijapur in Karnataka. The infant, identified as Shravan Ajay Telang, had allegedly been sold to a couple from Maharashtra’s Solapur for Rs 3 lakh.
Shravan was abducted from the Pune Railway Station while he was sleeping with his parents in the open space outside the reservation office around 2 am on Saturday. The Telang family, who are laborers from Maharashtra’s Yavatmal district, had traveled to Pune to visit a relative.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 2), Smartana Patil, confirmed the rescue, stating that the process to reunite Shravan with his family had been initiated. Preliminary investigations suggest that the baby was sold to suspects from Solapur. Two suspects have been arrested, and efforts are underway to apprehend others involved.
CCTV footage from the railway station revealed an unidentified suspect kidnapping the sleeping infant and fleeing in a car. Upon receiving the report of the missing child, the police launched an immediate probe. Examination of technical leads led the police to a village in Bijapur district, where a 24-year-old suspect was detained.
Further investigation revealed that the suspect and his accomplices had sold the baby to a couple from Solapur. Pune City police dispatched a team to Bijapur, where the infant was rescued from a hotel. Several suspects have been detained, with a continued effort to apprehend others involved.
The Pune City police are probing the possible involvement of an organized gang in the kidnapping of the infant, highlighting the importance of swift action and collaboration in such cases.
