Koppala: A housing project launched in 2012 by the Rajiv Gandhi Housing Board, aimed at providing housing for urban underprivileged residents, has left beneficiaries frustrated due to delays and poor conditions. The project, intended to build 2,000 homes, required beneficiaries to contribute Rs 30,000, with the government providing Rs 70,000, and a bank loan of Rs 1.10 lakhs to complete construction. Although construction began, significant infrastructure is lacking, and existing houses are deteriorating.
Last year, entitlements were distributed, and substantial funds were spent. Despite a decade passing since the project’s inception, beneficiaries still lack housing. Mohammad Shafi, a beneficiary, expressed frustration, citing issues with construction center oversight and fund allocation.
Beneficiaries have awaited promised homes for twelve years, with recurring assurances during election cycles but little progress. Despite significant funding, the situation remains unresolved.
Issues including the construction center’s conduct, fund allocation, and municipal council oversight have contributed to the project’s problems. Beneficiaries remain without suitable housing, uncertain about when or if they will ever receive it.
MLA Raghavendra Hitnal has discussed the matter with Minister Jameer Ahmed, seeking a Rs 100 crore grant for necessary infrastructure development, including water, sewage, and electricity connections. These improvements aim to expedite assistance for beneficiaries.
