Looks like Shimoga is now home to a deadly disease, which has only seemed to be increasing its number of victims, with 11 fresh cases reported on the 4th of February. This was among the 18 blood samples that the Virus Diagnostic Laboratory tested on the same day.

The 11 cases have only added to the number of them in Karnataka, bringing them to an overall of 64, which is bad enough already. Of these 24 are from Shivamogga, while three are from Chikabagaluru while the remaining 37 are from various places in Uttara Kannada.

While we hope to not see any more of this, it depends on the precautions people choose to take. The disease, known as the Kyasanur Forest Disease, as it is known to present in the ticks that are present in the forests, but will these residents take the advice of staying away from the woods for some days?

And this is why we have D Randeep, the Commissioner of Health and Family Welfare Development coming forward to take the necessary measures, in a meeting with the officials from the three districts.

This was following the death of two individuals (in Shimoga and Chikmagalur) who succumbed to this disease. At the moment, we have 37 people getting treated at various hospitals, on having got the disease.

This is enough to make one realize that the situation is serious and it is important to take utmost precaution against the spread of this disease.
