Udupi: SI Imran, who allegedly assaulted a youth who accidentally brushed past his wife while coming out of a grocery store at Salmar, has been suspended, said Udupi SP Annamalai here on Friday.

A case was registered against Karkala City Police Station SI Imran earlier on Thursday.

Raghavendra Moily (27), a resident of Jayanti Nagar, Kukkundoor, was the victim of the assault. The SI’s wife, on feeling offended when he accidentally touched her, complained to her husband, who then thrashed Raghavendra black and blue, first on the spot and then at the police station.

Karkala ASP Dr Suman probed the case against the SI after which the higher officials suspended him.

The victim is undergoing treatment at the Taluk hospital.
