Mangaluru witnessed the conclusion of the 26th edition of the district-level Sahitya Sammelana, organized by the Kannada Sahitya Parishat (KSP) at the Kudmul Ranga Rao Town Hall. The event concluded with several resolutions aimed at promoting Kannada language and ensuring the safety of students.
One of the key resolutions passed urged the government to allocate scholarships to students who choose Kannada as an optional subject during their graduation. The convention emphasized the importance of Kannada as the primary language in educational institutions across Karnataka, with English or other languages being learned as secondary or tertiary languages.
Furthermore, the gathering advocated for Kannada to be made compulsory in English medium schools. Additionally, there was a strong call for the government to provide adequate security measures for female students in schools and colleges, ensuring they can pursue their studies without fear. This resolution was prompted by a recent acid attack on female students at a college in the district.
During the open session on Sunday, KSP district treasurer B Aithappa Naik presented the resolution, highlighting the necessity for safety measures in educational institutions. Additionally, the convention urged the government to allocate special grants to schools with a rich history spanning over 100 years.
