Mundagod: In a major political development in the Uttar Kannada Lok Sabha constituency, around 3,000 supporters of Yellapur BJP MLA Shivaram Hebbar will join the Congress party on Thursday.
The event of workers joining the party will be held at Loyal Vikas Centre in the town on Thursday afternoon. All those joining the grand old party are supporters of Hebbar from the Yellapur-Mundagod constituency, said sources.
The event will be held in the presence of KPCC vice president Ivan D’Souza and District in-Charge Minister Mankalu Vaidya. It is said that from each Gram Panchayat, at least 300 of Hebbar’s and BJP supporters would join the party, and the number could reach up to 3,000, according to the sources.
However, Hebbar’s son, Vivek Hebbar, will not be joining the party at this event. He is expected to get the party membership in Bengaluru in the presence of state Congress leaders, maybe on Saturday or Sunday. Y
ellapur MLA Shivaram Hebbar, though elected from the BJP, has been maintaining a distance from the saffron party. He did not even cast his vote during the Rajya Sabha election and remained absent citing ill health. According to sources, Hebbar may switch parties after the Lok Sabha election.
