Vijayapura (Karnataka): A toddler, aged two, tragically fell into a borewell in the village of Lachayan within Indi taluk, located in Karnataka, on a recent Wednesday evening, as confirmed by local law enforcement.
Efforts to rescue the young child, who is believed to have plummeted headfirst to a depth of approximately 16 feet, are actively ongoing.
Officials report that the incident occurred when the boy was playing near his residence and accidentally fell into the borewell. The alarm was raised after the child’s cries were heard by a passerby, who promptly alerted the family.
“Rescue operations got underway at around 6:30 pm. On scene are police forces, revenue officials, members of the local panchayat, and fire and emergency service personnel, all working together in the effort to rescue the boy,” a high-ranking police official stated.
It is believed that the boy is trapped at a depth of about 16 feet. Currently, no sounds have been detected from him, but there have been signs of movement within the borewell.
“To ensure the boy receives necessary oxygen, tubes have been lowered down the borewell. We have observed some movement, indicating that the child is still alive. The rescue efforts are proceeding with urgency, and every possible measure is being taken to ensure the child’s safety,” the officer elaborated.
