In Kanpur, a young student, enrolled in competitive exam preparations, endured severe mistreatment and physical abuse by a group of older students due to an alleged debt. Following the circulation of several videos depicting the incident, law enforcement intervened, leading to the arrest of six individuals.
The identified suspects are Tanay Chaurasia, Abhishek Kumar Verma, Yogesh Vishwakarma, Sanjeev Kumar Yadav, Hargovind Tiwari, and Shiva Tripathi.
Reportedly, the victim, a teenager from Etawah, had migrated to Kanpur for coaching sessions. He became acquainted with seniors at the coaching center, who lent him Rs 20,000 for an online betting game. Upon losing the money, the seniors demanded Rs 2 lakh from him. Failing to repay, they subjected him to confinement and repeated physical assaults.
The perpetrators recorded the acts, showing instances of severe violence, including kicks and punches, targeting the victim’s private parts. Shockingly, one video displayed an attempt to burn the victim’s hair, while another depicted him stripped naked with a brick tied to his genitals. Despite enduring this ordeal for days, the victim eventually informed his parents, who filed a complaint with the police in Etawah. Regrettably, the family claimed that the accused were released with a warning.
However, following the viral spread of one of the videos on May 4, Kanpur Police took swift action, apprehending the accused. Deputy Commissioner of Police RS Gautam stated that the accused face charges under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, as well as the POCSO Act and Section 67(b) of the IT Act.
Police investigations reveal the accused’s involvement in a criminal gang operating from a flat, where they allegedly lure and blackmail unsuspecting students.
