New Delhi: A Pakistani woman named Seema Haider, who crossed the border into India illicitly last year to join her romantic partner, has received a summons from a family court in Noida.
Last May, Seema Haider, formerly married to Ghulam Haider, entered India clandestinely with her four young children.
Seema and her current partner in India, Sachin Meena, met while playing the mobile game PUBG. They assert that they tied the knot during a prior meeting in Kathmandu.
Ghulam Haider, residing in Karachi, filed a petition challenging the legitimacy of Seema’s marriage to Sachin Meena in a Noida family court, represented by an Indian attorney.
Celebrating their first wedding anniversary recently, the couple faces legal contention from Ghulam Haider, who also disputes the religious conversion of their children.
Scheduled to appear before the court on May 27, Seema Haider faces allegations of not obtaining a divorce from Ghulam Haider before her marriage to Sachin.
Initially seeking assistance from Ansar Burney, a prominent Pakistani lawyer and human rights activist, Ghulam Haider aimed to regain custody of his children.
Engaging Ali Momin in India under power of attorney from Ansar Burney, legal actions were initiated in Indian courts.
Seema Haider, who initially migrated to India through the UAE and Nepal while her first husband worked in Saudi Arabia, has stated in a BBC interview her conversion to Hinduism and her refusal to return to Pakistan, asserting that her children have also embraced Hinduism.
Citing international laws, Ansar Burney emphasized the prohibition of religious conversion of minors.
