According to the police, two men were lynched in the Eastern West Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya yesterday for supposedly attempting to rape a 17-year-old girl.
From Nongthliew village in the Eastern West Khasi Hills, the incident was reported.
The girl claimed that while the two were trying to rape her, they attacked her with a knife while she was inside her house. Neighbors flocked to the scene after hearing her screams and apprehended the two, according to the police.
About 1,500 people then took them to a nearby community hall and assaulted them there.
According to sources, when the police arrived at the scene, the crowd resisted taking them into custody.
The mob stormed into the community hall and beat the suspects while the police were negotiating with the local leaders.”The two could only be removed from the hall once the crowd had finished with them,” a policeman stated.
They were taken to the hospital immediately and were pronounced dead there.
According to officials, a case has been filed, and an investigation is underway. According to the police, the two men were laborers in Nongthliew.
