Mumbai: Bollywood actor Sahil Khan, who is known for his roles in films like ‘Style’ and ‘Excuse Me’, has been arrested by the Mumbai Police in connection with the Mahadev betting app case.
Special Investigating Team (SIT) of Mumbai Police Cyber Cell arrested him in Chhattisgarh following the rejection of Khan’s plea for interim bail by the Bombay High Court.
Sources indicate that Khan had evaded authorities and was on the run subsequent to the high court’s decision. The arrest was facilitated by a joint operation spanning over 40 hours with the assistance of the Chhattisgarh Police. Khan is slated to be transported to Mumbai for a court appearance.
Sahil Khan is also a social media influencer. The Mumbai Police Cyber Cell’s Special Investigating Team (SIT) has been actively investigating the alleged illicit transactions involving financial and real estate entities in Chhattisgarh and the promoters of the controversial Mahadev betting app.
Recently, actor Tamannaah Bhatia has been summoned by the Maharashtra cyber cell for her association with the promotion of an offshoot app of the Mahadev betting platform, pertaining to Indian Premier League (IPL) matches. In the same case Sanjay Dutt was also summoned but he sought time citing his busy schedule.
Last year, the Mahadev betting app came under scrutiny when actors Ranbir Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor, who featured in its advertisements, were summoned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for questioning.
Operated by Saurabh Chandrakar and Ravi Uppal from Dubai, the Mahadev Online betting app was centered in Chhattisgarh’s Bhilai. The ED’s investigation revealed that the app operated from a central office in the UAE, with Chandrakar and Uppal having connections to law enforcement, bureaucracy, and politics, and reportedly making regular payments to maintain the app’s secret operations.
