A taxi driver in Mumbai’s Nagpada area, identified as Nizam Khan, has been arrested for allegedly killing a woman and dumping her body near a rivulet. The victim, Poonam Kshirsagar, 27, was reportedly in a relationship with Khan, who confessed to the crime, claiming suspicion of her having an affair.
Poonam, a resident of Mankhurd and a domestic help in Nagpada, went missing on April 18 after failing to return home from work. Her decomposed body was discovered on April 25 in the Uran area of Raigad district. The body was identified by Poonam’s family, aided by her bracelet and clothes.
Post-mortem results revealed that Poonam had been strangled and drowned. During the investigation, it was uncovered that Nizam Khan used to pick up Poonam from Mankhurd daily and drop her at Nagpada.
Khan confessed to taking Poonam to Khadavli after her shift on April 18, where she drowned. He claimed they had an argument over suspicions of infidelity, leading to him strangling her. Khan then allegedly dumped her body in Uran after she was declared dead at a government hospital.
The case took a political turn when BJP leader Kirit Somaiya met with Poonam’s family, alleging her murder as a case of “love jihad.” He vowed to seek justice for the family and urged for strict punishment for those responsible.
The incident highlights the tragic consequences of suspicion and violence in relationships, prompting calls for justice and accountability.
