The University Grants Commission (UGC) has pushed for the involvement of Gender Champions in all institutes with the goal of advancing gender equality in all educational institutions.
Any gender can be represented by the Gender Champions, including boys, girls, and transgender people who are enrolled in school and above the age of 16. As accountable leaders, they are expected to create a welcoming atmosphere in their colleges, universities, and other academic settings where girls are accorded respect and dignity.Gender equality is guaranteed by Article 15 of the Indian Constitution.
Prior to this, on May 29 of last year, UGC wrote a letter that was published on its official website outlining the necessity of establishing an atmosphere that promotes equal treatment by enlisting Gender Champions in all of the nation’s educational institutions. The University body has once again asked that the Guidelines for Gender Champions in Educational Institutions be implemented as soon as possible. The UGC university and its associated colleges have the guidelines available.
Additionally, the government has launched a Gender Champions badge that can be accessed via the MyGov portal and its website.
UGC had earlier notified about the regulations for curbing the menace of ragging in higher educational institutions, 2009. The regulations are available on the UGC website www.uge.gov.in and www.antiragging.in.
The body noted that these regulations are mandatory and all institutions should take necessary steps for its implementation. Any violation of the anti-ragging regulations will be viewed seriously by the UGC.
