New Delhi: As tensions raise in the Middle East, after Iran warned of a retaliatory attack on Israel, on Saturday, Air India flights avoided Iranian airspace, said sources.
The flights of the Air India took longer routes to Europe to avoid Iranian airspace. Amid rising tension between two Middle Eastern countries, many countries including India, France and Russia have warned their citizens against travel to the region, as the region is on the edge over the war in Gaza.
Tensions between Israel and Iran reached a critical point following an Israeli airstrike on the Iran consulate in Damascus earlier this month, resulting in the deaths of seven people, including two generals.
The attack prompted concerns over the possible for a full-scale regional war.
Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, issued a stern warning, stating that Israel “must be punished” in response to the attack.
The Israeli military, maintained that no fresh instructions were to its civilians, but enhanced the vigil and ready for any scenario.
Iran considered attack by Israel a direct attack on its own territory, there are fears that Iran might directly target Israel, rather than through proxies like Hezbollah.
US President Joe Biden has expressed support for Israel, despite diplomatic strains over Israeli actions in Gaza. He highlighted United States’ commitment to Israel’s defense and vowed to thwart any Iranian attempts to harm Israel.
Meanwhile, the Pentagon has started the deployment of additional assets to the region, aiming to boost deterrence efforts and enhance the protection of US forces.
