Each year, World Asthma Day, orchestrated by the Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA), serves as a crucial platform to shine a light on asthma, a persistent respiratory ailment marked by airway inflammation and constriction, often manifesting as wheezing, coughing, chest tightness, and breathlessness.

Under the banner of “Asthma Education Empowers,” World Asthma Day 2024 underscores the importance of collaboration and shared knowledge in overcoming the challenges faced by asthma sufferers worldwide.

In commemoration of this day, we explore strategies to better manage asthma, with a focus on the potential benefits of yoga. Incorporating yoga into your routine can aid in relaxation, enhance breathing techniques, and fortify respiratory muscles, offering potential relief for asthma symptoms.

1. Bhujangasana :

  •  Begin by lying on your stomach with palms beside your chest.
  • Slowly lift your chest off the ground, keeping your legs and pelvis pressed down.
  • Hold for 30 seconds, then release. Repeat 3-4 times daily.

2. Setu Bandhasana:

  •  Lie on your back with knees bent and feet flat on the floor.
  • Lift your hips off the ground, keeping your shoulders and feet grounded.
  • Hold for 4–8 breaths before returning to the starting position.

3. Dandasana :

  • Sit with legs extended and spine erect, resembling a plank position.
  • Hold for 30 seconds to 1 minute, repeating 2-3 times.

4. Ustrasana :

  •  Kneel with thighs perpendicular to the ground.
  • Arch your back and reach for your ankles, keeping your head lifted.
  • Hold for 10-20 seconds, repeating for 3-5 minutes.

5. Tadasana :

  • Stand tall with feet hip-width apart, arms raised overhead.
  • Interlace fingers with palms facing upward, stretching upwards.
  • Hold for 10 seconds, repeating 3-5 times.

Remember, practicing yoga should be done under the guidance of a qualified instructor, especially if you have asthma or other health concerns. It’s crucial to consult your healthcare provider before starting any new exercise regimen, including yoga, to ensure it aligns with your individual needs and health status.provide news headline
