Mumbai: After a video of the Pakistani singer physically abusing a student went viral on social media, Chinmayi Sripaada, the singer of “Mast Magan,” criticized Rahat Fateh Ali Khan for abusing a “student.”
“The justification he gives here is ‘The teacher showers love on the student when they do well, and the punishment is equally harsh when they make a mistake,'” posted Chinmayi on X on Saturday night.
This is in response to the extensively shared video on social media that Samaa TV posted, which depicts the well-known Pakistani singer physically abusing a person in front of a crowd and demanding alcohol from them.
“Gurus get protected by the ‘divinity’ of their position, regardless of the faith/religion they practice – all their transgressions, from violence, and emotional abuse to sexual abuse is condoned for the sake of their ‘artistry’, ‘talent’ etc etc. This needs to stop,” she added.
Chinmayi called what the singer did “horrendous.”
A video of the artist acting aggressively on Saturday appeared on social media. It showed him slapping the employee and utilizing shoes to get even over a “bottle” that had gone missing.
On Saturday, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan issued an apology following outcry over a video purportedly showing him abusing his pupil.
Dawn reports that a later, regretful video featuring the singer defended the incident as a “personal matter between a teacher and his student” and named the victim as Naveed Hasnain was released.
In the same video, Hasnain, who is seen standing next to his master said, the “bottle” is responsible for the controversy in the original video and it “contained water sanctified by a pir,” adding, “he had misplaced the bottle and forgotten about it.”
“He is my father and my teacher. He loves us a lot too. Whoever has done this act [of leaking the video] is blackmailing to defame my teacher,” he added.
Rahat also added that he had asked forgiveness from Hasnain the next instant, Dawn reported.
